Citizen Cake = the yummy.
We had corn soup (which was phenominal, and probably the best I've ever had--and I just had some excellent corn soup at NoPa a week or two ago.), pea shoots sauteed with lemon, sea bass (Harper) with a salsa verde made from basil and other licorise/anise like greens and beans, and the duo of pork, which was a pork tenderloin and a pork confit. And then we had the love letter cake for desert, which was the highlight of the evening. We also had an excellent bottle of Reisling from Western Australia, two bottles of mineral water, two glasses of Muscat with desert, a basil mojito, and some sort of whiskey drink loaded with berries and kumkwats. The total bill was $189, plus tip.
They get points for lots of little details--like the artwork on the water and wine bottles here. There seemed to be a lot of thought put into the little things. I also respected our waiter, who didn't hesitiate to tell us that he had only tried this Reisling once and wasn't totally familiar with it before describing it. Then, moments later, he came back to the table to clarify something after reviewing his tasting notes, but before serving the wine. He also hooked us up with free bowls of soup, for no apparent reason other than to be nice. We got to chat with the owner/chef also, which I always enjoy doing, and the sommelier was also very cool. It was a great place for a birthday dinner.
The number one song in America on the day I was born was Chuck Berry's "My Ding-a-Ling." I suppose it should go without saying that I find this immensely pleasing. It was his only number one hit.
When I hit twenty-one, the number one song, for the eighth and last week in a row, was Mariah Carey's "Dreamlover." Like most number one songs recorded after 1989, I don't think I've ever heard it. Thankfully.
When I was a little biddy boy
My grandma bought me a cute little toy
Two Silver bells on a string
She told me it was my ding-a-ling-a-ling
My Ding-A-Ling My Ding-A-Ling won't you play with My Ding-A-Ling
My Ding-A-Ling My Ding-A-Ling won't you play with My Ding-A-Ling
When I was little boy In Grammar school
Always went by the very best rule
But Evertime the bell would ring
You'd catch me playing with my ding-a-ling
Once while climbing the garden wall,
Slipped and fell had a very bad fall
I fell so hard I heard birds sing,
But I held on to My ding-a-ling
Once while swimming cross turtle creek
Man them snappers right at my feet
Sure was hard swimming cross that thing
with both hands holding my dingaling
Now this here song it ain't so bad
Prettiest little song that you ever had
And those of you who will not sing
must be playing with your on Ding-a-ling
