Go Fish
When we lived on Fulton Street, I used to see
stickers and graffiti all the time for SPB--silly pink bunnies. It was
sort of mysterious. One day, when I came home on the bus I saw a poster
wheat-pasted to an electrical box at Fulton and Baker. It was a pink
bunny, stylized, hacked up and creeped-out, all limbs like pipes and
teeth and bones. Somehow or another, a few years later, I came to find
out that the artist was a guy named Jeremy Fish.
Not long after that, I met a guy named Matt who was friends with my friend Jeff.
He was a skater and part of the Silly Pink Bunnies crew. At his house
hung painting after painting. Pink bunnies and mutilated monkey meat. I
wandered around from room to room in a daze, mouth agape.
That was five or six years ago. In the interim, I feel like I've
watched Jeremy Fish's reputation--and talent--grow from afar. I only
have one print of his (thanks Jeff!), but I plan on buying more while I
still can. I'm kicking myself for not trying harder to buy
something eight years ago, but it's still not too late to get some good
deals on his paintings. We went to his opening at Upper Playground last night,
and though there were works in the thousands of dollars, there were
also a few that you could take home for a couple of hundred. He's ana
amazing artist, in my opinion, who just keeps getting better. If you
live in San Francisco, make a point to stop by.

He's also done a lot of cool toys:
