David Beckham is coming to America.

I mean, not like to shop, or to be on Letterman, or because Posh Spice has some new line of shoes she needs to

promote. No. He's coming to play soccer football. In Los Angeles.

I'm not quite sure why I'm as excited by this news as I am, but I think it's largely because this will generate real interest in soccer in the States. When Pelé came to play for the New York Cosmos, it for the first time brought the game some mass attention in the U.S. Since that time, interest has slowly, but steadily, built. This past World Cup had the most attention of any I can ever remember, and I think Beckham's stateside presence will do nothing but build on that.

holy crap! I cant wait. I mean, I can wait for the US tabloids to start having them on every page, but...hooray for footie!

Rent Once In A Lifetime off Netflix. It's an awesome documentary about Pele and US Soccer. It's loaded with hilarious 1978 footage of Howard Coswell and every other commentator saying Soccer was taking over America and it'd replace baseball any day now.
